The psalmist says they served their idols, which became a snare to them. So by worshipping foreign idols, the israelites ended up sacrificing their sons and daughters to shedim, or demons. This is the origin of the view that you find in the church fathers that pagans were worshipping,. christians would call demons or fallen angels.
