The anti-Masonic belief system was the very simple belief that all masons must be purged from public office. Their primary issue was that Freemasonry had become too big of a good old boys club in the United States. The movement became weaponized very quickly by people who wanted to exploit the political landscape. I think they saw the tide coming that there was going to be a pushback against Freemasonry because of how god damn big it had gotten in the U.S.
