Introduction
David Guineau: Today we're going to start part one of two on the second series of lectures from Foucault's time at the college de France. This one titled, Penal Theories and Institutions, which is from 1971, 1971, 1972. Here he's really focused on revolts that took place in 16th and century France against efforts to impose taxes on the people largely on peasant populations. He thinks here about the ways in which the state responded to these anti tax revolts.
