The Overuse of Force in the US

A lot of what people perceive as like the excess of American policing stems from this case and this philosophy about what cops are allowed to do, right? The idea that a an arrest or a stop is justified as long as they can come up with a plausible excuse has given cops so much power to harass people. A study by the Public Policy Institute of California analyzed four million stops by California's 15 largest law enforcement agencies back in 2019. It found that black Californians are more than twice as likely to be searched as white Californians. And then finally, this study found in California that black individuals are almost twice aslikely to be booked into jail as white individuals.
