The Roe Embassies in India and West Africa

I don't think anybody would have bet on England in 1600. The English turn out to be extremely good at getting small footholds in places and then consolidating them into something much bigger. India has quite an interesting parallel, I think, the world that Nadine is talking about with the arrival of Europeans in West Africa. And it's partly because the states that they come across are too well organised to be able to keep them at bay.
