The History of the Ashkaga in Japan

The ashkaga are the second of japan's three shogano families, who ruled from 13 36 to 14 67. They came to power when the first ashkaga, shogan takauji, betrayed the sitting emperor and took power for himself. The period of ashkaga rule was also an era of flowering culture and economic growth. At no point during the ara did the arts flourish more than under the reign of the profoundly incompetent show gun, yoshi masa.
