Premature Babies Go Blind - A Case Study
In the 1940s, there was talk of premature babies going blind shortly after being born with perfectly normal, healthy eyes. A phenomenon whose medical name is nystagmus became known as "blind baby syndrome" The first case was documented on February 14, 1941, when Dr. Stuart Clifford examined an infant girl in Boston.
