The Greek Ideal of Education
The greek ideal of education was the gymnast. Gym ists were those who had completely harmonized their bodily nature with to the extent considered necessary the qualities of soul and spirit. The Romans still considered it important to train the body, but gradually, almost imperceptibly, this fell to second place. In roman civilization, we see first the emergence of a cultivation of abstractions that led to the separation of spirit, soul and body.
