Politicians were desperate. They realized how bad the situation of the country wasve bulgaria emerged out of communism after the fall of the soviet union in 19 89. The country found the transition from communism to capitalism hard. By 19 91, the young democracy was in its first economic crisis,. with inflation and unemployment rising rapidly.
