Introduction

Professor Minnale is an associate professor of history at Cornell University. His first book, The Ottoman Scramble for Africa, was published by Stanford University Press in 2016 and considered Ottoman diplomatic and imperial activities during the late 1800s. His new book, Losing a Standbolt, Arab Ottoman Imperialists at the end of empire, was also published by Stanford and is available now. He talks to Ruben Silverman about how diplomacy and imperialism was experienced by the elite who carried them out.
