The First Abolitionist Speech in American Public Life

CNN's John Sutter looks back at some of the key moments in American history. He starts with a speech given by abolitionist Thomas Morris, who was an "outlier" on slavery. Historians are always telling us that these figures look pretty bad in comparison to other founders, he says. But it makes it harder for me to accept those historians' ideas about our founding fathers as good or worse than they really were.
