Mary is being presented as a model of faith, representing israel. But i think there's something even more amazing in the background. I think that mary is echoing another passage earlier in the bible,. Do you remember the story of joseph of the old testament? And his brothers hated him. The brothers threw him into, i into a pit, and sold him into slavery. He becomes a slave in egypt, but then ends up being pharaoh's right hand man. That's exactly what mary says.
