The Practice of Spirituality in the West, Right?

In the west, particularly in this country, religion is its dogma and ritual. But spirituality is a deeper engagement with our inner self that goes beyond ritual ceremony to an experience of who we are. There's a little bit of er, i don't know wht you call it, a illiteracy when it comes to even the difference between those two things. That's more of a western problem, right? I meanand in the east, if people say they're going on a three year retreat, it's a little less dramatic, probably, at least in some cultures.
