The History of Astronomy
The stars are still shining during the daytime, just like they are at night. The problem is simply that their light is drowned out by the glare of the sun. One may stand at the bottom of a well or something similar and glimpse the stars if you look up. A Greek astronomer Cleomedes says it comes down to illumination of part of the atmosphere immediately above the observer. And then you have Leonara Da Vinci also contending that the atmosphere is dense and full of moisture particles that reflect radiance to obscure the stars.
