Exfoliation is basically helping that dead layer of skin cells shed in a more even way. Exfoliants are ingredients that can dissolve the joints between the dead skin cells and help them come off in a moreEven layer. There's also evidence that this helps with acne as well. With chemical exfoliants, something to watch out for is that they can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
