Tatiana Baron escaped to Desser and the advancing Nazis in 1941. She ended up settling along with her family in Almaty then the capital of Kazakhstan. Today there were very few Jewish people left in Kazakhstan. Many are descendants of families who fled during World War II. Alexander Baron is a prominent figure in the Jewish community in Kazakhstan.
