The Benefits of Breast Conservation Surgery

As long as we can achieve local control without causing too much morbidity and without having the patient be off of systemic therapy for an unreasonable amount of time, I think that surgery is a very reasonable thing to do. If the patient wanted to have bilateral mastectomy or unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction, I think I would reiterate that we really don't expect any additional benefit from that additional surgery. So I think I'd lean towards breast conservation if at all possible. But we do know that there is a clear benefit in terms of local progression.
