In the late 18th century there were native americans and african-americans who worked on ships so it's possible that he had some decent principles about race from growing up i don't know but in the event like he ends up in new orleans he publicly in in writing he has a couple letters published in the liberator newspaper he he loaves abolitionists and he thinks abolitionists should just cut it out and stop talking about abolishing slavery. On the other hand he is willing to go into jails inNew York City and advocate for freeing
