The first instance of putting probabilities on global disasters was with coberts, because it's very much an objective probability. But until we flipped over to talking about probability as a reflection of our subjective beliefs about the future, people couldn't really talk about the probability of things that were frequently you would never get. Our prediction yets are too useful for us not to use them more and more.
