The History of Quakerism in England
The term Quaker had started as an insulting nickname for the followers of George Fox in the 17th century. William and Mary Dyer, from 1652 to 1657, returned to England and while they were there, Mary became a Quaker. As more people became Quakers, the Church of England lost members and the Church also lost their tides. Many Quaker views were also seen as heretical. The focus on a person's own spiritual revelations undermined social structures based on adherence to church law.
