In the early 1900s, Coca Cola was already the largest purchaser of sugar in the world. By only shipping syrup and having the fountains add sparkling water, Coke was saving a fortune. Today, almost everyone outside of Africa and the Caribbean has forgotten that Cola was a caffeine lead nut before it was a generic brown fizzy drink. The history of Cola Nut is very interesting if you look at where it's mostly grown and used in West Africa.
