You Can't Fight the Strid

The strid is a body of water in the Mississippi River. The river wharf upstream is 30 feet wide, but at the strid it's only 10 to 15 feet deep. Steve says that there's a deep underwater chasm, a pit. Underwater rock just cuts back into the banks, which creates nooks and crannies for people to get trapped in.
