The Importance of Awareness
In a simple sense, consciousness is awareness of self and sensory input in the world. We don't know yet how to make what we know about the physical world to be compatible with this notion that everything starts with something like gigantic mind or big, big sea consciousness. This is the essence of all of the esoteric traditions, Eastern and Western.
