At first, everyone seemed to understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic. For a few weeks, America was unified in a way that it hadn't been since 9-11. Even Alex Jones, perhaps the world's most influential conspiracy theorist, seemed to trust the official guidance at first. By April, he had abandoned any notion that the lockdown was good. He told his viewers all of this pandemic stuff was just another attempt by the government to control the populace.
