A thing cannot act on itself. This is basic philosophy, logic. So how can light illumine itself? You might see, what a stupid problem. Is this what philosophers do? Very, very interesting. And there is a work around that. We don't say the light enlightens itself. What is illumination? Something was in darkness and it is revealed by light. The light reveals itself and illuminates the other. It's not just light shining upon things in darkness but self-revealing as well.
