Is Machine Learning Really a Second-Order Application?

It seems like there's so much discourse around these text to image text to video models and the concerns about do they really understand what they're doing. I find them just very interesting to engage in as an intellectual exercise but regardless of what you think is going on in the internal states of these models, it's a fascinating application. The ramifications are really really interesting if we look at what could possibly happen down the line with that further development yeah.
