Unsolved Mysteries by Bishop Jose Antonio Loryano De Zubera

Bishop Lamey entered Santa Fe on 9 August 1851 and was welcomed by the governor of the territory, James C. Calhoun. A Spanish priest who was responsible for administration of the Catholic Church in New Mexico told Lamey that he and a local clergy did not recognize his authority. The sisters of Loreto, a religious order in Kentucky, dispatched seven nuns to bring religion and education to the frontier. When they were on their way, they were attacked by chalera. One of the sisters died, and one had to return because she was too ill to travel. So five sisters continued the trip to the west. Once in Santa Fe, the sisters established a school.
