The Network Approach to Religion and Conflict
The subtitle of our book is Things of Conflict. And we argue that everything can become a thing of conflict in a certain sense because it is part of a social network. People talk about something, people discuss something, people contest something, people try to understand something, people destroy something. These things are charged with how social networks and social communities perceive these things. Think about the Muhammad cartoons, think about the burning of the Quran, that kind of things, they become middleised, things of conflict.
