The Future of Gravitational Wave Astronomy

Gravitational waves can only be detected by siphoning energy away from them. So when a gravitational wave passes through an object, like it passes through a planet or passes through you or passes through a galaxy cluster, it will be affected by the gravity of the object. We are just at the beginnings of the field of gravitational wave astronomy and we are only detecting the most enormous events in the universe. But as the next generation of observatories come online, you've got the space-based observatories like Lisa,. better ground-based observatory, those plans to do like a 40 kilometer long armed version of LIGO.
