Lisa Navarrette: I was shocked that Michael Mukasey said he would not decline a trip worth $500,000 because it might cause him to offend a friend. The sermon rang by the Republicans on the committee was not shocking in the sense that it was fully anticipated but you know how willing they are to bend over backwards to defend Thomas at any cost including the integrity of the US Supreme Court.
