The Importance of Being a Watchful Kid
I don't necessarily think of myself like as an empath. Maybe it's because some of the people who describe themselves that way to me, I've been like, no, you're not. But I do think there's a lot of reading the room, trying to read cues and trying to sometimes be what other people want. And part of that was anxiety, but also being in a place where I knew my presence was often unexpected or unwanted. Those qualities that watchfulness and that wanting to find a place where they can feel safe have persisted for sure.
