Clifford irving came up with an idea to make money from a hoax biography of howard hughes. He would pretend that the book was actually in hughes's own words, as told to him by clifford irving. They'd have to work out a phony contract between Irving and hughes forbidding communication between them and each other. But if they didn't know it was a hoax? What if he really took them to court?
