The film was made by a crew of women up in the jungles of South Africa. "We were very specific that no character in the movie does anything in the action sequence unless it pushes their characters arcs further," says director Kathy Kinsman. There's been some criticism about how historical fiction should be portrayed, she adds."Our heroes represent the movement away from enslavement and others who want to fight back against this sort of cycle."
