In the colonies, in the early united states, puberty came on later. It fell a year every 30 years for middle class white kids because they were doing less physical bor and had better food. But parents from the start associated the beginning of puberty though, with sin. So it was very upsetting to see this happening to younger and younger kids. The funny thing is that this age group got its bad reputation starting in the time when parents had to be around them all the time.
