Ishmael Is No Longer in Abraham's House
The springs of water that came from her association with Abraham give out. And Ishmael begins to die. But then there's a transition from wrath to grace in this passage. In verse 17 God heard the lad crying and we shouldn't ignore that. That kind of language is used to the Jews in Egypt. I have heard the cry of my people in Egypt. The righteous were supposed to bless the priestly people but God has separate dealings with Gentiles as well. We'll see later on, well in this series we won't but you can go further and read especially in Genesis chapter 26.
