Quoth and Quote Are Not Related

Queed is an old english expression which refers to something spoken or said. It derives from the fact that wills were once oral, but as literacy spread, they started to be written down. The word qued also survives in another english word which has almost disappeared. Quoth is a latin term which entered english after the normans arrived. And originally it had a sense of numbers or amounts. Now i know what you're probably thinking, isn't quoth related to quote? After all, they mean basically the athing, and they sound almost identical. Well, this may surprise you, but the answers, no, they are not related.
