The End of J.R.R Tolkien's Life
Tolkien died 21 months after Edith's death on the 2 September 1973, at the age of 81. He was buried alongside her so they were together forever. That he was sad, I don't know. You love people who feel like you. Hey, I'd like to be able to connect. Tolkien was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1972 New Year Honours.
