The Cosmic Microwave Background
The cosmic microwave background is kind of the polar opposite of studying galaxies. It's light that is traveling to us from a time when the universe had no galaxies. You didn't have all the mess that went along with taking gas and stars, dust and mixing them all together in different proportions.
