Cohen's Story of a Child in a Taxi

Cohen's mistake all these years had been to believe that his fate lay in his own hands, that he was responsible for both his victories and his failures. All the good that had come to him and all the bad that had befallen him were equally the results of his own doing. The only wave he felt now was of anxiety, not so much a wave as an undertow pulling him back into the deep water from which he had briefly been rescued. As he arrived at the hospital, the sky opened and began dumping its great weight.
