The city of Athens would become a byword, don't be like Athens. Sella knew that in recognition of Athens' great efforts to save the Greeks and the Persian wars of its unparalleled cultural gifts to mankind. Aristion the tyrant fled to the Acropolis and barred himself in there with some holdouts. He was eventually starved out, surrendered, and executed. With this boost of morale behind him, Sella rallies his troops in storms the harbor forward at Pireas and finally takes it. Arkelaus retreats to the sea with his Pontian forces.
