The Long Arc of a Mystery Novel

In writing, you often have to know the end to structure the beginning in the middle. A novel has arcs and plot twists and cleverly planted clues and cliffhangers. So a human author mentally zooms in and out such that their stories have this sweeping arc to them. If you watched all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, or you read those books, you come to care about these characters.
