The Importance of Civil Rights in Northern Ireland
He was a Rhodes Scholar, famously in Oxford in the late sixties. Writers, you know, Bloody Sunday was happening as the troubles were just kicking off. He saw a parallel between the civil rights struggle that was going on from Catholics in Northern Ireland with African Americans in the south in his home region of the United States. And he thought that one had similarities echoes with the other.
