john coltrain was born into a family where music was surrounding him. He started playing the saxphone in his teens, and then moved to philadelphia when he was 17. Coltrain went on to become one of New York's most successful jazz musicians. His career was interrupted by world war too, but he never saw battle because he was stationed in hawaii.
