Breathing is ultimately controlled through the autonomic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system sends signals out to your airways and will basically tell them to dilate or open up. When this feedback becomes not necessarily disordered, there's a an issue that arises in it we start to develop a condition known as dyspnea. That could be due to you just have an overabundance of one of those gases or possibly your lungs become less compliant. This is kind of a coordinated reflex between each other just to ensure that Not only the breathing is efficient but it's keeping up with the demands of the body.
