The One-Sided Polarization of the Republican Party

The US Democratic Party is basically right in the center, and the Republican Party is far, far, far out to the right with the most extremist right wing parties of Europe. The term polarization implies both sides moving towards the extremes, at least to a somewhat significant degree,. And if that's not the case, then don't use the term. So much of the literature on polarization, whether it's empirical or theoretical, just little to define what the center of the poll should be. I find that idea, frankly, like morally bankrupt.
