The Role of Raccoon Dogs in the Pandemic
Raccoon dogs are members of the dog family and most closely related to foxes. While their markings make them look like raccoons, they're actually not related to them. The areas of the Hoonan seafood wholesale market that tested positive for COVID-19 were the same areas where raccoon dogs were being sold. This meant that the raccoon dogs may have been a part of the jump from wild animals to humans.
