I was urged to use mushrooms, ecstasy, LST, way back in the 2010s. They thought I'd be a better reporter, a nicer person. So I think drug use is not a new thing in Silicon Valley or anywhere else. Steve Jobs was a well-known user of me. And so I didn't find the journal story particularly scolding. It just was naming the names that people use it. But it bothers me and it's damaging when you romanticize drug use.
