How Can Echidnas Cool Their Skin?

Australian echidna is remarkably heat tolerant and capable of handling temperatures which were previously thought to be lethal. Researchers at Kooten University in Western Australia found that this marsupial can change the temperature of their skin. They also use mucus from their nose as an evaporative surface when they become hot, blowing bubbles through it. Echidnas are dispersed widely throughout Australia but there are fears for all native wildlife over the coming decades.
