I see now how being in the specific place that I was, and among the specific people that I was lucky enough to be around at that time, that very much colored my view of what Islam is. And I think today, I would hesitate before saying Islam is anything because really, we should be talking about Islam's plural. You know, with accounts of the life of the, you know, the prophet and his companions, you get very, very frank, open discussions about sex in various forms. But a lot of that tradition comes to us through women.
