Hemano's Story
Hemano and Sergeant McLaughlin were eventually pulled from the rubble of the south tower. At one point Hemano urged them to amputate his trapped leg so that he could escape but they decided against it because all the rescuers had was a knife. He remembers trying to use his hands to sign I love you but his hands were still too swollen. His wife and daughter were by his side police officers stood vigil at his bed but Will couldn't speak through much of it.
